The Institute of Noetic Sciences

Found out about this institute via the Horizon programme about decision making.

The main “scientist”, Dean Randin , has been Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences since 2001. His initial career as a concert violinist diverted into science after earning a Masters degree in electrical engineering and a PhD in psychology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. For a decade he worked on advanced telecommunications R&D at AT&T Bell Laboratories and GTE Laboratories; for over two decades he has focused on consciousness research at Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, University of Nevada, and three Silicon Valley think-tanks, including SRI International, where he worked on a classified program investigating psychic phenomena for the US government. At the institute of noetic sciences he was carrying out experiments that were suggesting that we subconsciously predict what will happen next: that we have precognition and therefore allows us to make intuitive decisions. This theory was highlighted via an experiment that used a slideshow that randomly selected positive and negative imagery. By attaching GSR sensors to the respondents, the anticipation that each slide would be an emotionally charged or non emotionally charged created varying results. These results were interpreted as being the key moment of precognition.

  1. I’m just got interested in this stuff by reading the Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and i just think its fascinating. the idea that we can alter the world around us on a small scale is really just amazing.

hey me too.but it suggest that many minds can do greater things. i wonder?

i think these studies could suggest the solutions to many things including esp and medium activity it is much more plausable to assume we use our own subconsience other than any other force that exists

I just finished reading that book as well…I never thought that there will be an institute per se for this kind of science.
I am thrilled…that people are starting to believe themselves rather than believing for something that is out there…

I was wondering that the expirement that is described in the book acrully exists. the one where the dying man is put into the tank and as he is pronounced dead his body becomes lighter. Has this expirement acrully been done ?

i read the lost symbol, too, and i’m getting really interested in noetic sciences. i really want to know if any of the experiments posed in the books have actually been done?

I’m exactly the same manii wanted to know if that experiment has been done…, i never know what to take as literal when reading Dan Brown’s books, he is amazing! He is the reason i am interested in physics in the first place! They should definately TRY this experiment at least! The implications of it could be immense if the soul actually has mass!! :)

after reading the book. I thought to my self that authours have always written that a character felt heavy with guilt. so if the thoughts actully have mass then they would make sense. just something I thought about

The soul weighs around 9 grams, this experiment has been done. It’s the whole preface for that really boring movie 9 Grams.

I just read Dan Brown’s book. The capitol has a lot of hidden secrets. I practice a lot of esp from intense focusing. We can change the world by applying positive thinking and meditating for positive things to happen in the world. The free masons practice this technique.

if thoughts have weight that cant be contained then how if a dying person was placed in a environment that they were being weighed. then they if they died couldent the lost weight be the lack of conciouse thought which no longer existed because the man died? i believive that baises of these studies exist on the knowledge that thoughts have a mass. so how can the mass of a soul be weighed at the time of death if all these thoughts end at the same time?

the experiments have been done.even the one`s in The Lost Symbol

Without realising it I believe I have subconsciously influenced events throughout my life. Either that or there have been an awful lot of coincidences!

After reading a novel which referred to Noetic Science I have become really interested in this subject.I feel I have been subconiusly using the principles of it before discovering that it is a science.I have so many things happen in my life that I do not out down to coincidence.

    Is Noetic Science against religion?
